Visiting the Zoo

Many of the species housed at the San Diego Zoo live in expertly recreated natural environments, giving the habitats and enclosures a real sense of authenticity. With so much beauty to see, plan to spend at least three to four hours exploring.

Because the zoo is so large, there are several ways to get around. Many visitors choose to walk the many pathways that wind throughout the different areas. Along these paths, there are lots of places to stop and explore. There are also several different bioclimatic zones, as well as aviaries filled with exotic birds.

For people interested in covering more ground in a shorter time, guided bus tours and express bus travel are available. The 35-minute guided bus tour gives a great overview of the zoo and is a good place to begin when you first arrive.

The express bus is not guided but does stop at several different locations, allowing passengers to hop on and off as required.
